These paintings explore nature in its imagined and abstracted form. The set of watercolor Bouquet works depict imaginative floral compositions that flow freely across the glossy paper, developed out of colorful, gestural, seemingly temporal marks and movements. And the acrylic Habitat works depict colorful natural environments densely populated by overlapping expressive animal and plant life. All of these works are purely imaginative and directly inspired by the potential beauty and vitality of nature’s gifts, aimed to offer a window into a peaceful world.

Since graduating in 2015 with a BFA in Painting, cum laude, from Syracuse University, John Catania has collected various awards and honors and has been featured in numerous exhibitions and online publications. He has participated in and sold work in various group shows, many juried, throughout Long Island, Syracuse, Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. In 2015, Catania was selected for the 4th annual Bryant Park Painter in Residence Program, and in 2019 he presented at the debut Emerging Artist Discussion Series at the Heckscher Museum of Art in Huntington NY. Today, Catania continues to fulfill various commission requests while looking to ever expand his practice by exploring new techniques and artistic motivations.
